The Legacy 150 Celebrations Society
The Legacy 150 Celebrations Society once again hosted the 3rd annual Canada Day Drumming Celebration took place in 13 Canadian cities across five time zones. Choice Communication continued to serve as the project manager for this growing national celebration. The original anticipated number of cities was surpassed due to strong support of this innovative event.
On July 1, 2019, hundreds and thousands of proud Canadians in Vancouver, Victoria*, Prince George, Prince Rupert*, Kamloops, Kelowna, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax together celebrated Canada’s 152nd birthday, multiculturalism and diversity through the nationwide simultaneous drumming. The Province of British Columbia proclaimed July 1, 2019 as being an “An All Canadian Simultaneous Drumming Celebration Day.”
Across 11 cities, including Vancouver, Prince George, Kamloops, Kelowna, Regina, Winnipeg, Toronto, Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax joined forces via live-steaming to attempt a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSTM of “The Largest Group Drum Roll (Multiple Venues)”. Unfortunately, due to logistics issues in some cities (that were entirely made up of volunteers), the attempt fell short marginally.
The celebration at Vancouver’s Creekside Park was hosted by CBC Vancouver news anchor, Dan Burritt, through the continued support of CBC Vancouver as the exclusive English media sponsor.
The event received tremendous support from the community. Dignitaries who attended the event included Senator Yuen Pau Woo; Jenny Kwan, Member of Parliament for Vancouver East; the Hon. George Chow, MLA for Vancouver-Fraserview; Hon. Sam Sullivan, MLA Vancouver Falsecreek; Hon. Teresa Wat, MLA for Richmond North Centre; Councillors of City of Vancouver, Adriane Carr, Sarah Kirby-Yung, and Michael Wiebe; Philippe Sutter, Consul General of France; Henk Snoeken, Consul General of Netherlands; Consul General of Pakistan, Muhammad Tariq; Deputy Consul General of Philippine, Leo Tito Ausan; Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China, Consul Shi Chenyong and Ding Tian; HKETO Principal Consultant, Catherine Yuen; also joined the celebration.
The event also received special congratulatory messages from the Right Hon. Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada; the Hon. Mélanie Joly, Minister of Canadian Heritage; the Hon. Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of National Defence & MP for Vancouver South; and Mayor Kennedy Stewart, City of Vancouver.
The Musqueam Indian Band presented Star Quilt Cover to four distinguished guests in honour of their achievements and contributions. The four individuals were WWII Veteran Tommy CG Wong, Colonel Howe Lee, Member of Parliament Jenny Kwan, and Vancouver City Councillor Sarah Kirby-Yung.
A vibrant line-up of multicultural performances entertained the crowd after the all-inclusive simultaneous drumming across Canada and Guinness World Records™ drumming attempt.
The celebration received wide media coverage from CBC (TV, Radio & Online), Global TV, City TV, CTV News, OMNI TV, Fairchild TV and Radio, Talentvision TV, Sing Tao, Ming Pao, Lahoo Canada, and more.
