Celerate LNY at Lansdowne Centre on Former Racetrack

Lunar New Year is one of Richmond’s most vibrant and anticipated community celebrations, and in 2026, Lansdowne Centre embraced the Year of the Fire Horse with a unique event that connected local history, cultural traditions, and interactive family fun.

The Year of the Horse held special significance for Lansdowne Centre. Long before becoming one of Richmond’s most recognizable shopping destinations, the site was home to the historic Lansdowne Park Racetrack.

Inspired by this heritage, the celebration featured the themed “Fire Horse, Gold Rush” interactive game, blending Lunar New Year traditions with the site's racing history. Participants of all ages enjoyed a series of engaging challenges, including horse-racing activities, gold ingot collection using oversized chopsticks, and a lively race to the finish line.

The game transformed a traditional Lunar New Year celebration into an immersive experience that encouraged teamwork, family bonding, and community participation.

A Festive Community Gathering
The festivities began with an opening ceremony attended by community leaders, dignitaries, and special guests, followed by a vibrant dragon and lion dance performance presented by the award-winning Hon Hsing Athletic Club.

The lion dance team then travelled throughout the shopping centre, bringing blessings and good fortune to merchants, shoppers, and visitors.

The 2026 celebration successfully combined cultural traditions, local history, interactive entertainment, and community partnerships, creating an experience that resonated with both longtime visitors and new participants.
