Celebrate LNY with a Cultural Twist at Lansdowne Centre
To usher in the Year of the Snake in style, a larger-than-life size Snakes and Ladders board game was available for the public to enjoy. A tradition of over 20 years, Lansdowne Centre celebrated the Lunar New Year with the communities that celebrate it and invite everyone to take in the festivities.
The giant board game was intended to bring the Year of the Snake to a whole new level offering LNY celebration, family bonding, and team building. The participants enjoyed an immersive experience being an integral part of the game and bringing good luck home. Lunar New Year Celebration at Lansdowne was free and opened to the public. Opening ceremony by dignitaries happened from 12:00 pm – 12:30 pm on February 1, 2025, to be followed by Dragon and Lion dance by the award-winning Hon Hsing Athletic Club. Game time began after the ceremony to 5:00 pm. Measuring approximately 10m x 10m with each tile at 1m x 1m, we invited families or groups of friends (up to four people per team) to face off with up to three other teams to win bragging rights and themed prizes. The teams were colour coded with costumes, completed with a giant die for the game. To play, we encouraged a minimum donation of $10 to VGH + UBC Hospital Foundation to support transforming specialized adult care and research in BC, reduce wait times and enhance healthcare. “We are excited that the mall will be filled with festivities with rich red and gold decorations and a game themethis year.
