As an ongoing tradition to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival with the local community, Lansdowne Centre puts together a moon on the enchanting lotus pond, and the traditional riddle guessing that are meant to take you back in time for a unique experience. What’s more important is it is intended to share the cultural meaning and to create understanding and harmony among the communities.
The free, family event includes activities such as taking a photo on the bridge across an enchanting lotus pond, lanterns tunnel with riddle guessing, lacquer fan making workshop, Hanfu (traditional Chinese costume) experience, local artisan market, children’s arts & craft, and lots of prizes to be won. More importantly, the event raises awareness and funds for the VGH + UBC Hospital Foundation to help transform specialized adult health care and research in BC. “With our deep roots in Richmond, we always celebrate the cultural festivities with our communities. While admiring the brightest moon of the year – the fifteenth day of the eighth month of the year, I understand that it also symbolizes bountiful harvest and family reunion, which is kind of similar to Thanksgiving. People can travel back in time to appreciate the elegance of the Mid-Autumn festival, right here at Lansdowne Centre. We also take this opportunity to give back to the community by collaborating once again with the VGH Hospital Foundation,” says Bronwyn Bailey, Marketing Manager, Lansdowne Centre.” A special year calls for special celebration. While the festivities take place on October 4 and 5, the actual Mid-Autumn Festival falls on October 6, which is exactly one week before Thanksgiving. It is quite fitting, as the two celebrations carry similar importance to their respective cultures and calendars. Both celebrate the bountifulness of harvest time, reunite family and friends, and feature delectable feasts. The Mid-Autumn Festival serves chicken and mooncakes, while Thanksgiving opts for turkey and pumpkin pie. |
