Canada 150 Atlantic to Pacific Drumming Celebration Press Conference

With the involvement of eight cities across five time zones, July 1st will mark a historic moment for a national drumming event celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday.
On April 25th, the eight regional committee chairs of the Canada 150 Atlantic to Pacific Drumming Celebration gathered to announce exciting updates of the national event taking place on July 1st, 2017.
The national committee, made up of representatives from Vancouver, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax, spoke in front of a large audience made up of dignitaries, Chinese-Canadian veterans, media, and community supporters.
A cheque presentation also took place as Mr. and Mrs. Leung of Downtown Subaru Toronto donated $50,000 to the Vancouver Foundation for the Legacy 150 Celebrations Endowment Fund.
The Legacy 150 Celebrations Society, the non-profit organization hosting the event, established an endowment fund with the Vancouver Foundation to help better achieve this national, multicultural community project. The simultaneous drumming event across Canada will embrace diversity, create understanding, and celebrate unity on Canada Day, July 1st, 2017!
“We believe it is one of the biggest celebrations from coast to coast to coast,” said Richard Wong, National Elected Chair of the Society, “we are very glad to be joined by the Committee Chairs from all 8 cities today. It is a historic moment and we invite the public to join in the celebration.”
The press conference ended with a lively, multicultural drumming presentation from The Naad Foundation, Kathara Pilipino Indigenous Arts Collective Society, and Shao Lin Hung Gar Kung Fu Association.
