Canada Day Drumming Virtual Celebration 2020
Legacy 150 Celebrations Society
In an unprecedented time of pandemic, Canada Day Drumming Celebration was fortunate enough to be able to continue as a hybrid virtual event. The event also had live and interactive components which sets it apart from other pre-recorded virtual events. Choice Communication continued to serve as the project manager for this transformed, national celebration. The 4th annual Canada Day Drumming Virtual Celebration, organized by the Legacy 150 Celebrations Society, took place in 28 Canadian cities across six time zones. With physical distancing guidelines enforced, the virtual event provided an interactive and safe platform for citizens to feel connected, supported and engaged. The event as well saluted healthcare and frontline workers by fundraising for Frontline Fund. The anticipated number of cities was surpassed to support the purposeful and innovative event. On July 1, 2020, hundreds and thousands of proud Canadians in Abbotsford, Burnaby, Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton, Port Moody, Prince George, Prince Rupert, Richmond, Surrey, Vancouver, Victoria, Yellowknife, Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, Regina, Winnipeg, Burlington, Markham, Town of Oakville, Richmond Hill, Toronto, Montreal, Saint John, Halifax, Charlottetown and St. John’s, together celebrated Canada’s 153rd birthday, multiculturalism and diversity through nationwide simultaneous drumming. The Province of British Columbia proclaimed July 1, 2020 as being an “An All Canadian Simultaneous Drumming Celebration Day.” The virtual celebration was opened by Global TV news anchor, Sophie Lui, through the support of Global TV and 980 CKNW as the exclusive English media sponsor.
