Chinatown Storytelling Centre Grand Opening
The Chinatown Storytelling Centre opened on November 5, 2021. This purpose-built space features more than 100 story contributions from Chinese Canadians of all ages, social backgrounds, and immigration histories and celebrates the powerful resilience of the Chinese Canadian journey. This is the first permanent space of its kind in Canada with programming, exhibits, and interactive kiosks sharing personal stories and featuring short films that provide opportunities to learn about people and places of significance in Canadian history. Every unique piece of memorabilia, video, photograph, and story has been thoughtfully curated by the centre with contributions from across Canada. Dignitaries including Brandt C. Louie, Consul General Tong Xiaoling, Lieutenant Governor of B.C. Janet Austin attended the grand opening, and the event received wide media coverage from CBC Montreal, Fairchild TV, Fairchild Radio, Omni TV, Ming Pao, Sing Tao, Xiuhua News, Dawa News and more. The Chinatown Storytelling Centre is located in the heart of Vancouver's Chinatown at 168 East Pender Street. It is a central component of Vancouver Chinatown Foundation’s cultural revitalization efforts.
