Virtual “Baking with Kids” class and bake sale appeal the community to support Ukraine
In response to the shocking humanitarian crisis happening in Ukraine, Choice Communication wishes to do its part in supporting the people of Ukraine. Violence has forced tens of thousands of Ukrainians away from their homes, and many families are separated. A fundraising bake sale was initiated by two high school students including Dasha Laptieva (who moved to Canada at the age of six) and Isabelle Tang; but they didn’t know where and how to host it. We were pleased to help to coordinate this event with the generous support of our client, Lansdowne Centre, who provided the booth at very short notice and waived all costs. On March 12 and 13, the two students, together with a group of volunteers, “sold” palmiers, medovik (a Ukrainian honey layer cake), chocolate chip cookies (donated by Beaucoup Bakery), ribbons (in Ukrainian flag colour), and masks by donation. The response was overwhelming, the pair raised $4,080 in donations over the weekend, all of which goes towards the Canadian Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal. The kindness and generosity of the community was truly heartwarming. And the support continues, EverythingGoesVirtual.com (or EGV) launched the second episode of Culture Tastic: Baking with Kids presented by Trail Appliances on March 19. Chef Betty Hung, pastry chef and co-owner of the Beaucoup Bakery & Café kindly agreed to demonstrate and share the secrets behind the making of palmiers from scratch. With ingredients carefully measured and delivered by EGV, the live 90-minute, family-friendly event was full of engaging and interactive moments for adults and children alike. All spots were filled (with a waiting list) and all registration fees were donated to the Canadian Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal. The platform EverythingGoesVirtual.com was conceived to allow liked-minded people to interact, learn a new skill, and share interest safely – apart, yet together. It allows interaction without limitation on location, age, or race. More importantly, it is a medium to promote culture, understanding, and inclusivity through cooking. As well, the events aim at giving back to the community through the charity partner Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives. This cooking series is made possible by the generous support from the presenting sponsor, Trail Appliances, and the venue sponsor, ASPAC Developments! EGV will continue to feature three themed Culture Tastic episodes through June with information updated at https://www.everythinggoesvirtual.com/culturetastic.html. |
