LNY Celebration at Lansdowne Centre brings together East-meets-West culture

Thousands gathered at Lansdowne Centre on February 10 to usher in the Year of the Dragon amidst a giant LEGO dragon created by Robin Sather (the only LEGO® Certified Professional in Western Canada), interactive session with Robin, family portrait studio, artisan market, children’s arts & craft, Instagram-ready festive decorations, and more. 7668 LEGO pieces were used to construct the giant LEGO Dragon sculpture sized 2m long and 1.5m tall built over 2.5 days. Dignitaries attending included MP Parm Bains, MP Wilson Miao, MLA Henry Yao, MLA Teresa Wat, Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie, Councillors Chak Au, Andy Hobbs, Alexa Loo, and Bill McNulty. The opening ceremony was kicked off by dignitaries followed by Dragon and Lion dance performed by the award-winning Hon Hsing Athletic Club which got everyone captivated and marvelled at the manoeuvres that the team displayed. The event received wide media coverage from CBC Vancouver, Global News, CTV News, City News, Richmond News, Fairchild TV, OMNI TV, Ming Pao, Sing Tao, Xiuhua News, Lahoo.ca, influencers and more. “We are excited that the mall was filled with festivities and smiling faces on this auspicious day. We had many families, multicultural and multi-generational, dressed up in traditional LNY clothing to take in the spirit, took family portraits, participated in the themed activities, and rang in good luck throughout the Year of the Dragon,” says Bronwyn Bailey, Marketing Manager of Lansdowne Centre. A tradition of 20 years, Lansdowne Centre celebrate the Lunar New Year with the Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese communities and invited all communities to take in the festivities. To usher in the Year of the Dragon in style, a giant LEGO dragon sculpture was created by Robin Sather. Building started on February 3, and the dragon sculpture was on display through LNY and Family Day before dismantling took place on February 25. |
