VIRTUAL CHARITY CHINESE NEW YEAR COOKING
The first-ever Virtual Charity Chinese New Year Cooking with Chef Denice Wai takes place on Sunday, January 31, 2021 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm online while streamed live from the River Green Presentation Centre. Due to the pandemic, it is difficult for families to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Ox together. Grandparents, parents, and grandchildren will not be able to get together for the traditional Chinese New Year Eve dinner or other forms of celebration if they are not in the same household. EverythingGoesVirtual.com is a new platform that enables different parties to stay connected. While it is mainly for business use, such as hosting of webinars, workshops, or fund-raising events, it is also perfect for celebrating festivities. Chef Denice will be demonstrating two traditional Chinese New Year dishes, with a healthy cooking twist. The two dishes are Nagaimo Turnip Cake and Nagaimo & Mushroom Dumpling and recipes can be downloaded here. Participants can interact with her and ask questions, much like in a physical setting. The 14 spots in the Zoom Room were literally filled within hours. Participating families are Canadians from different ethnic backgrounds including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Japanese. Apparently, they all share a passion for Chinese cooking and food. Of note is that Mrs. Christine Brodie (wife of Mayor Malcolm Brodie) in Richmond, BC will be joined by her daughter and three grandchildren in Alberta. It makes this charity cooking event truly multicultural and multi-generational – to stay connected, although apart. The event is made possible with the generous support of Aspac Developments in providing the filming venue and Lansdowne Centre in supporting the chef’s participation and providing the ingredients to all participants. The event is free to join. Participants and the public are encouraged to donate to Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives at https://www.rcrg.org/Donate. The event can be viewed online at www.EverythingGoesVirtual.com and YouTube Live and will be archived for future viewing. |
